WEEK 1
On the first day we began by Rob telling us to walk around the dance studio this was to get our bodies moving as some of us were still in sleep mode. While walking we were also told to stop and go and then switched it so when rob said stop we would walk and when rob said go we would stop walking this was to test our listening skills because rob was saying how listening was one of the main skills an actor needs to have we also did the same thing with 'clap & jump'. Continuing on we were told to find a partner and categories our selves into A & B, I was partners with Katie old how person A (Katie) would create a sentence and person B (me) would have to carry on with the scene as they saw fit. Rob then told us how Bs would have to swap by going round in the circle and we would have to carry on with the same process. While doing this activity we had to have rules these were accept the idea of the person and DO NOT BLOCK OR PUT DOWN YOUR PARTNERS IDEA!Skills
- confidence
- Awareness
- Imagination/creativity
- collaboration
- Discipline
- listening
- openness
- voice
- and most importantly enjoy
- Habits
- Being shy
- getting it wrong
- Fear of failure
Following on with the week we were introduced to a Greek play called Medea Sharon our teacher told us to read the play and get an idea on what it was about for homework. later on in the day I went home and analyzed the play after reading it a couple of times and made suggestions on what the play was about and who was Medea.
On the last day of the week Thursday 13th September we worked on our diction/articulation by sounding C, G, L, N, D, T, M, P, B!
As well as just pronouncing and sounding the letters, we were all given a poem some of us got different ones, my poem was called 'The British' by Benjamin Zephaniah it was about diversity of cultures in Britain however the poem was to test on how we said each of the words. For me the poem was very 'wordy' it had a lot of words that I could not pronounce which made it harder for me, however I managed to get some of the words correctly and speak the poem out, I wanted to say it in a sophisticated manner as it sounded 'posh' and gave the poem the life it needed but I decided to say it in my normal reading voice which still sounded very sophisticated. In the end of the lesson Rob advised us to do these or other similar vocal techniques during the weekend and everyday, as a person who had vocal lessons in school and sang all the time I understood how important it was for us to do these techniques because one of the most important instruments an actor needs just like a singer is their voice.
